Dominating Diabetes: Managing Type 1 Diabetes with a Low Carb, High Fat (LCHF) diet

diabetes LCHF low carb t1d type 1

Hey Warriors!

Well, it’s been a little over two months and I am loving the low carb, high fat (LCHF) lifestyle!  I am cut my insulin usage in half and have lost about 13 pounds since I started eating this way in early January.

The table below shows my average glucose from February 25-March 9.  There were a couple days that didn’t go too welll, but for the most part my blood sugars have been awesome!

As you see below, my insulin usage is way down.  My current usage per day is about 20 units of insulin, and 16.5 units are my basal.  I even had one day in the last two weeks that I didn’t have to bolus at all and maintained an average BG of 99!!

Besides the great BG numbers, I am loving the foods I get to eat on the LCHF diet.  In the morning I eat eggs, cheese, and sausage or bacon with organic, grass-fed butter.  It’s so good! Full of healthy fats and protein!  I will snack on items like almonds, beef sticks and cheese throughout the day.  Dinners are great, usually steak or chicken with a salad and a veggie.  In some future posts, I’ll include some reciepes that my family and I really love!

I also noticed, after getting through the first couple weeks my energy levels have been through the roof! I am feeling great, clean and full of energy.  I just recently finished a round of P90X3, which is a pretty high intensity workout program.  Once I start the LCHF diet I noticed my workouts suffered, but they quickly rebounded and I finished stronger than I ever have before!

Bottom line, I really believe this diet is the key for Type 1 Diabetics to live their best life possible!  I am so happy that I discovered this way of life and would invite others to give it a try for themselves.

How do you get adequate Vit. C usually found in fruit and veggies? How do you get enough fiber etc. to aid in regularity?
